Back to School Already?!

While many students are still cramming for finals or anxiously counting down the days until summer vacation starts, retailers are already gearing up for their back to school campaigns. Computer manufacturers like Sony, Toshiba, and HP have already launched their newest back-to-school product releases.yellow school bus

Teen Vogue has declared August 10th, 2013 national back-to-school shopping day (better mark your calendars!). And Office Depot has announced it will be teaming up with One Direction for its 2013 anti-bullying cause marketing campaign- 1D + OD Together Against Bullying– because Lady Gaga is so 2012.

While the last days of school seem to drag on longer than an eighth-grade graduation ceremony, summer itself seems to be getting shorter and shorter, sandwiched between Father’s Day sales and back-to-school specials. Although we do love long summer days, sunshine, BBQ’s, and pool parties, we feel it’s our obligation to begrudgingly report on back-to-school discounts and news as it comes out. Last year we took a look at the back-to-school marketing campaigns of Staples, T-Mobile, Dell, Best Buy, Sony, Apple, HP, and Microsoft.

This year, we’ll be keeping an eye out to see if any of these retail giants took our advice and made improvements to last year’s campaigns, and of course, we’ll be sure to post important breaking discount news like who is giving away an X Box this year and who is giving away a PS3. What hoops will consumers have to jump through to redeem these offers this year? Will Lady Gaga or the Kardashians find new companies to team up with this year, or are their anti-bullying cause marketing days over? Are the rumors floating around Mac fan forums true- will Apple actually give away iPad mini’s this year? Only time will tell.

On behalf of all the back-to-school shoppers out there, we’ll wrap this up with a note to retailers. Marketers, listen up. If you’re thinking about offering student or teacher discounts for back-to-school season this year, you seriously need to give us a call. There’s still time to get your student or teacher verification solutions in place- we have easy hosted solutions that require no integration. You know that the back-to-school season is one of the most lucrative times of year for retail, second only to the winter holidays, right? Once your offer is protected, you can let it go viral because you’ll be confident that only students or teachers can redeem it. You can offer deeper discounts, win loyal new customers, increase your brand awareness, and your ROI and conversion rates for your back-to-school campaigns will improve dramatically. You’ll get a gold star from your happy customers and an A+ when you turn in your Q3 reports.
