Startups and Fortune 100’s join forces to help students save on back-to-school shopping

August 22, 2016 — New York, NY — Today, University Beyond, a recruitment and management platform for on-campus brand ambassadors, along with partner and eligibility verification solution provider SheerID, announced the second annual “National Student Discount Day” taking place on August 24th, 2016. This holiday brings together brands of all sizes, including Staples, Adobe, and ZipCar and more, to offer exclusive promotions to college students during the busy back-to-school shopping season.

Brands already working to offer exclusive discounts to students through SheerID, as well as those that are developing new offers this year, will bring attention to these discounts using Twitter. Not only will the conversation create awareness of the available promotions, but it will also promote conversation about back-to-school student needs. Students can follow the #NSDD hashtag to find the many deals offered on this exclusive holiday and get involved in the discussion.

“Back-to-school is an important time for college students to gather the supplies they need to see success in the coming school year,” said University Beyond co-founder, Doug Messer. “This year, we’re thrilled to work with the many influential brands that have committed to giving back to students with deals on everything from software products to new clothes to college textbooks. Using the hashtag “#NSDD”, students have access to some of the most exclusive, sought after products available today.”

National Student Discount Day was created in 2015 with the goal of providing college students access to back-to-school discounts they otherwise may not have had access to. Over 100 major brands participated, helping students save on a wide range of products including mobile plans from Sprint and discounts on their favorite streaming services like Spotify. After an overwhelmingly positive response in 2015, the 2016 holiday is shaping up to bring an expanded array of products and services to students across the country.

“We’re excited to yet again support National Student Discount Day with the many brands that are providing extra value to our nation’s students,” said Jake Weatherly, CEO of SheerID. “It is a great opportunity to bring our clients’ exclusive offers to college students at universities all over the country, ensuring that they are able to get what they need for a productive school year. We look forward to seeing this holiday continue to gain popularity.”
